I didn’t pay much attention when the name T Harv Eker pop up in my search engine from time to time. I thought I have quit the business guru fans club after attending Robert Kiyosaki‘s 2-hour session last year.
I couldn’t remember seeing any T Harv Eker materials on my Facebook. Until one day, I saw Mindvalley Academy posted a Free Masterclass by T Harv Eker that relates to identifying your money blueprint.
I must say I have a good impression of Mindvalley having previously signed up for Unlimited Abundance, an energy clearing program by Christie Marie Sheldon. It was pretty good.
I thought T Harv Eker was just another business guru. And I wonder what he’s doing in the spiritual business?
That was the first time I heard of the term “Spiritual Millionaire”.
So I clicked and register for the free masterclass (knowing it will lead to the promotion of one of his program)
If you have missed out my previous post on Nick Vujicic, check this out What I learned from Nick Vujicic in 90 minutes.
I thought I would find it a waste of time…
I went through the 2 hours free masterclass session viewing some clips of T Harv Eker talking about the failures that he had to endure and how miserable it felt chasing for money senselessly for 10 years without any success.
And beaten and broken by failure, he eventually retreated to a Zen temple, seeking the spiritual path. While journeying on the spiritual path brings him peace, that was not what he wanted either. ( I could almost relate to his situation at this point)
He talked about finally realizing that it is possible to have BOTH spiritual and material wealth to coexist in harmony in life. And it is with this mindset that he proceeds on to start a business that eventually made his first million dollars.
I was half convinced that he has something to offer that is different from other speakers in this niche. I thought it’s worth trying signing up for his program The Spiritual Laws of Money since MindValley is offering a 30 days money back guarantee.
And so I signed for it.
It’s a series of 2-hour courses to be completed in 8 weeks. (If I am not happy, I could get a refund by week 4.)
Here’s what I learned after 5 Weeks into the program
Yup. I did not ask for a refund.
Because amidst all the hype of Law Of Attraction and programs on manifesting abundance, T Harv Eker goes right into business with this sentence that resounds strongly with me.
“Abundance Is Your Birthright, Wealth Is Not”
Wait, isn’t that the same thing?
But it seems not, according to T Harv Eker.
You can have your abundance in the mental, emotional or spiritual aspect of your side. But if you want abundance in the physical world (wealth), then you need to take PHYSICAL action for it to materialize as physical wealth.
As contrary to some speakers continuously preaching of positive visualization, T Harv Eker stressed that you wouldn’t get far by mere visualization alone. It takes consistent concrete action to actually bringing dreams to reality.
What? No get rich quick secret?
Definitely a great disappointment to those who are expecting a quick route to wealth and success. There are no hints of any short-cut to success 5 weeks into the program.
Instead, T Harv Eker sounds like a badass coach, talking about accountability and how hard we have to work at least in the first 5 years if we are to create any worthwhile business that will bring us wealth.
“Is money good or evil”?
A very interesting question that I first encountered in depth when I was doing a course by Christie Marie Sheldon, Unlimited Abundance.
This is a common belief that has been programmed in our subconscious mind during our years growing up. “Money is greed“, “money is the root of evil“, “rich people robs the money from the poor” or similar thoughts could be the exact mental block that prevented wealth coming your way.
But T Harv Eker made it clearer and take it further by stating that money is NEITHER good nor evil.
He gave a perfect analogy by comparing money to hammer used by a carpenter. A hammer is neither good nor evil. It is just a tool which a carpenter can use to build or destroy.
Likewise, money is just a tool for us to trade within our daily life. The abundance of wealth gives us options that are not available to us when we are barely making a living.
A simple concept that makes perfect sense, and yet could have been our subconscious block for decades that limits our progress in building wealth.
Earn, Keep, and Grow
I have one friend that told me that we often pay to learn what we already know. Well, perhaps she’s right in this sense. Sometimes we accumulated loads of garbage that has piled over our common sense.
It’s getting back to basics with T Harv Eker. There’s no fancy strategic planning or tactics but it’s all about discipline and methods that made logical sense.
For instance, “What do you do when you don’t have enough money to save?”
Earn more or reduce your expenses. Basic common sense practice and yet we see so many people going into debt.
One of the reasons that made me continue with this program is that T Harv Eker does not encourage reckless decision making.
Some business gurus would have gladly shouted “Do what you love. Quit your job“. But T Harv Eker would go “Create wealth by doing what you love. But make a transition from your present state“.
The 6 Jars For Personal Money Management
With T Harv Eker, it’s all about balance. You can’t spend all your money on yourself. Yet if you deprive yourself of enjoying your the earning, you may soon find all your motivation draining away. So what’s the best solution?
He suggested in dividing earnings into 6 accounts as follow :
a) Financial Freedom Account – This is the account that is to help you becomes financially free. You can invest but NEVER allowed to spend it.
b) Long Term Saving For Spending – If you are eyeing for the latest smartphone that you can’t afford, this is where you need to save.
c) Education – Learning is for life. You save for your continuous education here.
d) Necessity – This is what goes for your day to day expenses, our mortgage, rent, food, bills, etc
e) Play – This is where you splurge and be crazy about it.
f) Gift Account – Give back to a charity or any cause that you believe in.
He even suggested a certain ratio for the earning to be placed into the accounts as a start. Of course, the whole 6 Jars System is explained in a more detailed manner in the program.
While some may argue that similar methods exist, going into this program with T Harv Eker is about accountability and a coach on your back.
“Money Doesn’t Make You Happy”
This is one topic that makes T Harv Eker goes ballistic. If anything, there’s never a dull moment in his course.
This is another one popular lie or misguided beliefs that are trapped in most of our subconscious mind.
While it is true that money does not make you happy, having very little of them in your bank doesn’t bring a smile to your face either.
At the other end, we have people chasing career or business success to find happiness.
T Harv Eker hits the right spot when he said that money has nothing to do happiness. In fact, they should not be linked together in the first place.
You can be happy or unhappy with or without being rich.
Mantras
I thought T Harv Eker must be right out of his head when he starts giving out homework in the form of mantra chanting.
It’s like taking medicine 3 times a day but only in the form of reciting something like “I am a spiritual millionaire”, “I create wealth doing what I love” or “I am happy and rich” 3 times a day.
He said it’s about how committed we are with our goal. If we couldn’t even do such a simple thing, then what hope do we have of being successful. I see the logic in that but I suspect there’s even more to it.
I was right two weeks into the program doing this mantra thing.
You see, our life has been a result of our routine, belief, thoughts, and action. If we are to continue to do the same thing, then we would get the same result.
The practice of doing this mantra is to create a disturbance in our thought and routine. Because change happened when the old familiar routine breaks.
The result, I found myself snapping out of negative thoughts before it brought me into a spiral fall.
3 More Weeks Of Coaching, Visualization, and more Mantras.
Did I mention that each of his courses ends with his infamous 2 Path Visualization exercise? It’s a powerful exercise that guides you to invoke your emotion as you visualize the pathway to two extreme choices. It made you remember what it feels like if you are to choose the lesser of the path. It’s a very good motivational push to work harder and be committed to the training and progress in life.
I’m definitely looking forward to the 3 weeks left of lesson from T Harv Eker’s program, The Spiritual Laws of Money. Till now, I’m pretty convinced that T Harv Eker has something unique to offer to me with his series of courses. When I’m done with that, I will be checking his book, Secrets Of The Millionaire Mind.
Have you been to any courses or read any books by T Harv Eker? Have you ever heard about him? Do share your experience in the comments below.
I definitely believe in the Law of Attraction! This was a great post that did not go in the way I assumed it would. As soon as I saw the word “guru” I immediately prepared to hear about a scam. Thank you for showing that not every guru is out to get you!
Hi Olivia,
I have my fair share of self-proclaimed business gurus who delivered nothing when it matters. To be frank, if it wasn’t for the 30 days money back guarantee, I wouldn’t signed for T Harv Eker’s program, but I’m glad I did.
Thanks for reading.
Kenny
Love this, I also subscribe to Mindvalley and heavily believe in the Law of Attraction, Quantum Energy and all of that good stuff, I practise and teach it also. T Harv Eker’s is one of the better ones. Have you done anything with Dr.Wayne Dyer also? I also study him along with many others. Excellent information, thank you.
Hi Helen,
I’ve heard of Dr. Wayne Dyer but has not read any of his material.
I’ve done Christie Marie Sheldon and now T Harv Eker. Great stuff by both.
Thanks for reading.
Very interesting article you have here on T. Harv Eker. I have never heard of him so I did find your remarks interesting. I get what he is saying when it comes to the part of taking physical action for material items to come into being. The big word here is action. Some type of action has to go along with formulating things in the mind. It’s all part of the steps that have to be taken to achieve the rewards.
It does take some time to get rid of negative thoughts, get programmed correctly and combining it with the work to achieve final goals
Angela
Hi Angela,
In the end, we have to take massive action to change our life. Positive thinking is a good thing, but it only takes us to a certain extent. Thanks for reading.
Kenny
Great review! I like your perspective being from someone who has had some challenges and continues to strive to overcome them.
Hi Alan,
In this case, I can relate to what Harv Eker is talking about (although I still lack his success as a millionaire).
Nevertheless, this is more than motivational stuff for me. It’s all about taking massive action regarding how tough the situation is.
Thanks for reading.
Kenny
Hi Kenny, nice write-up. I’ve not heard of Eker before but some of the ideas were familiar. There’s a certain dark humour in trying something for 10 years, failing, then succeeding only after having walked away. In his case going to that Zen temple for a new perspective.
I really liked that idea of drawing a distinction between abundance and wealth. It’s one thing to know lots of stuff, another to work hard and use it. Thanks for the motivation!
Hi Robert,
The reason I like Eker is that he is not another one of those Guru who would professed loads of fancy ideas and visualization and made you think about getting rich just by sitting there.
Each time I listen to his courses, I would get guilty if I did not complete those ‘homeworks” which he assigned us to. Definitely a coach you would like on your back if you are going for the win.
Kenny.
First of all, great website dude! Love what you did here.
Your article seriously rules. I just kept reading and reading word for word and I usually don’t do that with blog articles. (I usually just scroll over for a few seconds.) But the way you write is incredibly engaging and relatable. Seriously, you are a real blogger, not just a guy who just creates content for the sake of creating content.
Fantastic stuff! Keep up the great work
Best
Martin
Hi Martin,
Thank you for your compliment, it means a lot to me. Blogging is a continuous learning process.
Kenny.
Hi Kenny,
I haven’t heard of Eker before today but love the idea of having a badass success coach! From the sound of it, you have found a great mentor and guide. I would like to know about him and what he has to offer. Great article.
Hi Sandeep,
You can check him up either through his own page or from Mindvalley Academy. I’m tired of sweet mouth business guru promising success. Having a bad ass coach is something for a change.
Kenny
Like you say people pay to be told what they already know. I guess it’s a way to evaluate if we are right when no around us understands what we are going through. I hope you will find your answers. I loved reading your post and am looking forward to knowing how your journey into this program turns out.
Hi Carolyn,
Thanks for reading. I’ll be updating this post again when I’ve completed the remaining 3 weeks.
Kenny
Great post, I love it. Very interesting question and articles ( is money good or evil ) really got me deeply interested. Keep up your good work.
Sophie64
Hi Sophie,
Thanks and glad you like it. I haven’t really put a thought into this question till late last year.
Kenny.
Great article and definitely an eye-opener. However, I disagree with the quote ‘money doesn’t make you happy’. There was a study a while back with some people, I can’t remember all of it, but the ones that had less money in their bank account would wake up sad – and that would carry out through the whole day.
The ones with more money sitting in their bank account would wake up happier and generally be happy people for the whole day. Now it may be a coincidence and it may not be.
But having true financial independence is never a bad thing.
Great article, keep up the good work.
-Brandon
Hi Brandon,
I do get your point. Perhaps I did not convey my point clearly enough. I disagree that money being linked to happiness. When people say money doesn’t bring you happiness, I would say being broke doesn’t either. In this sense, I am agreeing to what you are saying. It is ok to be happy being rich. It is not ok not trying to be rich by getting stuck in the belief that “money doesn’t make you happy”.
Thanks for the read.
Kenny
Thank you for sharing your take on this. I, too, have seen this name popping up, but unless I hear or see something a bunch of times, I don’t take it seriously. Then, just like when I saw this article today, I’ll see it “one too many times” and I’ll realize somebody’s trying to tell me something! LOL I’ll definitely check this out. Thanks so much.
Hi Debra,
You’re welcome. Hope that my article helps you. Looking forward to know what’s your impression on Harv Eker.
Kenny
It’s true that money does not buy happiness but not having it does not make us happy. When I go through hard financial times, I keep myself calm by thinking about those that are not as lucky as me to at least have a roof over their head, food in their cupboards or family for emotional support. We should count our blessings in all other ways, not just money.
Hi Reyhana,
We often forget to be grateful for the things we had when we are after things we don’t. It is hard to remember that especially when facing hardship. Thanks for reminding.
Kenny
This sounds like a great and interesting program to invest my time in. I know a lot of people struggle with personal values and the controversial role of money in our lives. I know I’m not outcast from this common struggle. Thank you for the recommendation. I would love to check it out and have a mental recheck.
Hi Grace,
I’ve never given a thought about some values that I’ve held on in my entire life, until last year. I hope you like it.
Kenny.
Hi Kenny,
I’ve heard of Nick Vujicic but this is the first time that I’ve heard of T Harv Eker. I can really identify with ““What do you do when you don’t have enough money to save?” Because ever since I stopped worked many years ago to look after my kids, I’ve had to budget and reduce my expenditures.
I’m going to try the mantras that you learnt too: “I am a spiritual millionaire”, “I create wealth doing what I love” and “I am happy and rich”. Hopefully, it will help me to be more committed to my goal to attain financial independence.
Yvonne
Hi Yvonne,
Harv Eker is much more a coach for me than those conventional gurus. It all comes down to the discipline. As for Harv Eker, each time I listen to his course. He will follow up with “did you do your homework”.
I have no doubt you will achieve your goal if you follow it through. Those mantras are meant to break our routine. Example we have a similar thought pattern which gave us our current results. Those mantras are meant to break it.
Kenny
Hello Kenny,
Seems that I learned a lot from your website not only reading from what T.Harv has to say but listening to you sharing your wisdoms and experiences. Yes, we always learn more from our failure than success. No one person’s failure is the same. Each one of us has our own uniqueness in our own lesson learned. Keep more coming as I hope more readers will benefits from your inspiring Success Starts From Your Mind.
Hi Rehmiee,
Thanks for checking out my website.
Kenny
This post is very interesting and although I do agree with allot that is said in this post I do have to disagree with one thing though, and that is that money has since the very beginnings of civilization always been the root all evil in the world. Yes, money is a tool and yes there were in the history human kind been wealthy people that used the wealth they had for good. But through out history till this day the wealthiest and most powerful people in the world use money to advance their own positions of power and to tax and control the masses through fear and intimidation. And that in itself is evil. Money corrupts even the best of us. The most wealthy and powerful people in the world in history till present day has never used their wealth and power to uplift humanity but ALWAYS to suppress and control through fear. If money was not the root of all evil in the world, our world would be quite the opposite of what it is today. And best part is that people don’t even need money to live life, to build, to invent and be creative, to eat or drink, to travel the world. Ask yourself what were to happen if money didn’t exist? Would we still be able to do all the things we can do today? The answer is yes we can. Money only exists as a means to control and enslave people. Money only has value because we give it value, because we were told it has value. Same with gold, platinum and diamonds etc. We are brainwashed from birth into believing these things are valuable. Why? Because it’s worth allot of money! But the truth is that it has no value at all. Only life in every shape and form has value. Human beings are valuable, plants, animals, bugs and the planet earth are valuable. Love, respect, compassion and kindness etc has value. These are the only “things” worth living for. As long as money takes us away from what is truly valuable in life it will always be the root of all evil in the world.
Hi Sean,
A very interesting perspective from your point of view. I see your point. It’s all about seeing things as they truly are.
The fact is, it has always been a tool of exchange. And there will always be people consumed by greed with or without money, as long as there is something perceived as valuable in the play.
However, I feel that it is unfair that for some people who has a high moral barrier, conditioned to think that money is inherently evil, and hence neglect any progress to acquire them.
Money when used in the light of goodness, can bring hope and joy to millions of people.
Thanks for your opinion.
The laws of attraction can be a powerful thing. This is a great review of the way people think about money. After reading this it has inspired me. I can relate to what you are talking about and now I am looking at myself and thinking, I am looking at this wrong. Thank you for this as I am going to be looking at money a completely different way now. Is there more guys like this out there that talk about money and the spirituality? Thank you for this article. I really enjoyed it!
Hi Jason,
The law of attraction is an interesting subject. I don’t believe it’s something new or ‘created’. It’s just how much we are not aware of the power of universe.
I’ve heard various good gurus who talked about spirituality OR wealth. But never have seen someone like Harv Eker that managed to put both together in such convincing manner.
Kenny,
I followed T. Harv Eker a long time ago since I was first introduced to the self-help genre. I haven’t seen his he Spiritual Laws of Money though. But according to you it seems like a good fit for me as well since I don’t have a great relationship when it comes to money.
How much is the course? If it comes with an affordable price, I’d love to check it out.
Thanks for sharing!
Cheers,
Anh
Hi Anh,
The course is will cost you USD229(I’m not sure if they revised the price yet) with a 4 weeks money back guarantee. You can check it out via Mindvalley Academy. It’s a program that was jointly developed by Mindvalley and Harv Eker.
Kenny
Very Good article, to be honest, I had never heard of T Harv Eker until today. The course sounds amazing, and he sounds different from the “get rich quick” gurus. He seems to have a better understanding of what it really takes to become successful in life. He seems to be a firm believer of taking action and that is awesome. I might have to check out his course for myself. Thank you for sharing this post with us!
Hi Omar,
I think in terms of popularity, Eker is lacking behind others like Kiyosaki or Tony Robbins. But it’s the substance that matters. I would be careful of any gurus that promised you wealth. For me Eker is more like a coach.
Kenny.
I found your article on T Harv Eker very interesting. This is the first I’ve heard of Eker and his workshops. Typically, I’m skeptical of so-called gurus, but you seem to have benefited from his work. I particularly like Eker’s idea of different money jars and the teaching that money won’t make you happy. Happiness is independent of material things.
Hi Gary,
I’ve seen my fair share of bogus gurus. In fact I checked in Eker’s free seminar with thinking whether this could be another scam. I think he convinced me otherwise.
Kenny.
Thanks for this post -I have heard a lot about mind valley and been told it is great.I am always looking for new sources of abundance (not necessarily wealth) as I agree that abundance comes before the wealth – worrying about money all the time is not going to help attract more of it is it?
Great review and definitely going to look into it further. Thanks.
Hi Holly,
Worrying doesn’t help in any situation. But such is the nature of our mind. The trick is how to break out of the cycle.
Kenny.
T.Harv has been around since the 80s. I read the Millionaire Mindset shortly after it was published…not sure of the year. I remember I was very excited about it when I read it, but I had some difficulty putting the 6 bank accounts into motion. It sounded like a good idea at the time, but I never got it off the ground. I especially like the long term saving for spending idea. I hope you had better luck than i implementing it. Good post!
Hi Jackie,
I like the 6 jars concept. I agree that if we don’t have a money management system in hand, it could be hard to implement. But like it or not, money management requires self-discipline and consistency.
Thanks for reading.
Kenny
Hi Kenny
I just listened to the webinar and doing some research found your blog. Some time has passed since you wrote the blog, what are your thoughts? Are you still doing the program? What type of results are you having? Would you still recommend?
Thanks
Jeannie
Hi Jeannie,
I finished all the 8 courses in The Spiritual Law Of Money. In a way, it gives a very solid plan for money mindset and management guide that we have to build by getting rid of our old habits first. And if you are big about taking action, Harv Eker is the right coach because each of his lessons is all about commitment. His use of mantra may seem superficial at first, but it breaks our old subconscious programming related to money.
But if you are new to Harv Eker, I would suggest you checking out his book Secrets Of The Millionaire Mind which will lay you a good foundation to progress faster in his course.
Cheers,
Kenny
Hi Kenny Lee, I’m very glad when I woke up this morning, I find and read your article. I am not an extreme social anxiety strugler, but yes I’ve got social anxiety sometimes. And surprisingly I do what you wrote in your article about how to deal with social anxiety. My intention is not for dealing with social anxiety struggle, but I think that way will change my life better than now I am. And me surprize too that you learn from T. Harv Eker too. I only read his book, but I know this man is something. Your article like reminder for me, so I have more strong belief about what I’ve done. Thank you, read your article is a help for me.
Hi Wanda,
I’m glad that we share common ways of dealing with social anxiety. It just reaffirms my thoughts that it’s possible to transform our lives when we put our mind and effort to it. And yes, Harv Eker is unlike other business/life coaches I’ve ever known. His no B.S. approach kept me on my toe. Thanks for sharing your thoughts here.
Cheers,
Kenny
