When I first came across “The Secret” in my favorite bookstore a few years ago, I thought it must be a romantic fiction or a novel on magics and spells. I didn’t give it a second glance. Little did I know that “The Secret” is the cause of a renewed interest in the Law Of Attraction in this modern age.
I only caught up with the hype almost a decade later. Maybe I wasn’t ready to attract the Law Of Attraction to my life back then. Being raised in a secular environment, I would simply push the concept aside as it was hard to prove scientifically, unlike meditation.
In other words, my mind is not open to learning what is Law Of Attraction and how does it work.
What Is Law Of Attraction?
Katherine Hurst, a leading Law Of Attraction expert, in her blog simply puts Law Of Attraction as “the ability to attract into our lives whatever we are focusing on.”
It is about what we think and how we think, and how those thoughts manifest into things that we desire (or not).
That which is like unto itself is drawn – is the major premise of the Law of Attraction.
The Law Of Attraction is working for you regardless of your belief in it. If you put out positive thoughts consistently and followed by positive action, then you will get positive results.
But this is pretty general and seems like the law of cause and effect or “reap what you sow” concept in some religions.
The Law Of Attraction as we know it in the 21st century is more specific in its steps in manifesting our desires. Most LOA courses and gurus will mention these popular techniques as key to the succesful manifestation of our goals.
- Visualization
- Affirmation
- Power Of Intention
- Practice Gratitude
- Take Massive Action (If you are manifesting in the physical realm)
- Live With Joy
- Break Your Limiting Belief
How the Law Of Attraction Works?
When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.
— Dr. Wayne Dyer
Have you ever experienced a really bad day where things seem to fall apart one after another? Or maybe stuck in a woeful state in your life wondering why you can’t get out of it? Regardless of how hard you have tried?
That’s because when things screw up, your mind naturally goes into the negative state. Anger, frustration, and blame overwhelmed your mind.
You are now vibrating at a very low level of energy.
In such a negative state, guess what you attract?
More problems.
We are natural manifesters when it comes to attractive negativities in our life. Trust me, we are so good at attracting problems but when we are told that we can use a more systematic process to attract the positives, we simply look at skeptically or in disbelief.
Try flipping the process for a positive outcome. Think positive thoughts, be grateful, set your intention and go all out working for it radiating a higher than love energy vibration.
It is not a miracle. When you align your thoughts, emotion, and actions to a higher level consistently, you tend to see opportunities that you would have missed out in a negative or neutral state.
When you see possibilities instead of problems, you take action. And taking action is the first step to “miracle” to happen.
Law Of Attraction Is The Working Of Energy Vibration
Here’s a really good example of how I see new opportunities when I start to lift my energy to a higher level, after going through an energy clearance course by Christie Marie Sheldon.
I start joining community projects that gave back to society in charity works. (I used to think that it’s a waste of time). With a group of like-minded people, we gave back with our love and thoughts. When a group of people resonates at the same level of positive energy, the result is amazing.
I wasn’t thinking about what I could get in the process. But simply loving what I do because of the level of energy that I’m in. But guess what happened to me not long after?
One thing leads to another and I eventually landed a writing job with one of the world’s leading photographer, Zung, The Ninja Photographer. It wouldn’t happen if I refuse to change my thoughts and action in the first place.
And most importantly I met the love of my life, three years after recovering from a painful separation.
All this happened by only working on a part of the Law of Attraction.
No, I don’t have money falling from the sky at this moment of writing. Nor do I expect it to happen anytime soon. But I’ve discovered opportunities (that I would normally shrug aside) which lead to priceless experience in my journey to my goal.
And if you asked what my goal is, it’s making an honest living in the online world.
This is what Law Of Attraction is all about. Not money and love popping out of nowhere, but opening up realistic opportunities in your life that aligns with your goal.
The universe is always ready to give, but you must be ready to receive.
A Simple Exercise
The next time you are playing in sports or games, try changing your thoughts from “Don’t Lose” to “Let’s Win“. No, it’s not the same. The first phrase brings the images of losing to your mind, the second let you visualize yourself winning.
Guess which thought would make you perform better?

Do you believe in the Law Of Attraction? How has changing your thoughts affect your life? Or do you get trapped in negative emotions easily and find it hard to escape the problems that keep besieging you one after another?
As I am digging deeper into the workings of the Law of Attraction, I am becoming more and more able to see it manifesting everywhere.
Everyone is constantly manifesting unconsciously and I can see those manifestations before my eyes. This has changed my life, because I am being aware of those manifestations and learning what to do and what not to do in order to manifest my desires.
The Law of Attraction is as real as you and me and works 25/7/365. The challenge is to make it works for us and not against us.
Harry !
Hi Harry,
Thanks for sharing your thought on how LOA has changed your life. I like it when you say that the challenge is to make it works for us and not against us.

Thanks for the fascinating clarification! I always thought that the law of attraction was a little too meta-physical for my tastes.
But the way you describe it, I completely agree. It’s true that times where I felt I was vibrating at a higher consciousness, I was able to make better decisions.
Kind of curious though do you have any practical tips to apply this is everyday life, especially if we’re busy with work and such?
Hi Cerulean,
I used to be very skeptical about law of attraction. But that’s because most resources omitted some realistic aspect of getting it to work.
I don’t think you can just switch into higher consciousness when you are so busy at work. But you can make it a habit to start your day that way. With proper visualization and meditation you could really lift your spirit beyond negativity first thing in the morning.
I used Christie Marie Sheldon’s visualization recording to help me achieve that. Eventually it became a habit.
Cheers,
Kenny
Wow, amazing article!! I discovered THE SECRET a few years ago and being a cliché, it changed my life, my way of thinking and opened my mind to a whole new world of possibilities. The mind is a truly powerful tool and many people do not know how to properly use it. If everyone learned how wonderfully powerful the laws of attraction this world would be an amazing place.
Hi Danielle,
I’m glad you have found Law Of Attraction a useful technique in transforming your life. Keep it up.
Thanks for reading.
Cheers,
Kenny
Law of attraction has been very very iffy for me. Because I just call it, Have a goal in mind, set up a plan to achieve that goal and go for it.
In many cases people commit to really risky ideas with an overzealous belief that they will be able to circumvent all obstacles and put everything up to the law of attraction as though it’s the most important thing.
I think it’s true that having vision and thinking about what you want is important, if overrated. Because you can’t keep up the facade of feeling like crap on a bad day and the law of attraction is not a substitute for hard work. Wanting something really bad and having vision is not the same as having a plan for something, understanding the risks and being able to execute the plan. It’s the reason why I’m skeptical of people who say I want it so bad, it will work, but when you ask them technical detailed questions about their plans they fold in.
Hi Darren,
I agree with you. I don’t believe in having wild imagination of getting rich or other goals and expecting to get it. Most Law Of Attraction information or courses missed out one of the most important thing. Taking massive action and to be able to try very very hard to reach your goal.
Feeling good is one thing. But having those abundance converted into physical wealth or other manifestation required no shortage of effort to get it.
Cheers,
Kenny
Oh Wow!
I think I had a brain melt whilst reading this article.
“When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” – Wayne Dyer.
I love that quote, it makes so much sense… so powerful.
Thanks for this amazing post Kenny =)
Hi Lawrence,
Thanks for checking my post and your compliment.
