Those who expect life to be a walk in the garden are often taken by surprise. Some sooner than later. We are all bound to experience failure in some point of our life. Students failed in exams, sales guy losing the big contract, entrepreneurs goes bankrupt, divorce tears a family apart and losing in competition to a newcomer. This is just to name a few.

To understand how to rise from failure each and every time, you have to understand what is going on with our emotion and eventually how to train our mind to overcome it.

Failing – The emotional mess

First comes the disbelief and denial, then the acceptance of defeat, the shame and the loss of self-worth. And then we are in the pit itself, darkness engulfs and there are no light within sight.

This is when our mind starts to tell us stories. And most of them are aggravated lies. It eats up whatever is left of our self-esteem and confidence. Most who have never faced any real failure in life, would succumb to it.

Halting The Slide

As we degenerate into a mess of helpless soul, we MUST be aware that all the negative feeling is purely in our mind and thought. What other think of us does not contribute to the feeling of shame and self pity we brought upon us unknowingly. It is an illusion that we create on ourself.

It is also at our lowest point that we often have to make a choice to stay where we are or to choose to bounce back hard. I urge you to choose to latter and strengthen your will and be resilient. The journey back up is tough but not impossible.

Getting Back Up

First, you have to realise that as a human being, you are not perfect and bound to fail eventually. Understand that failing means learning. Learn to understand the emotion and stop feeding it. What you feed, it grows. And you may come to realize, that it is your ego, and probably a huge one, that makes failure so hard to swallow.

This will be the first step of realizing that you are not good enough and also the first important step in standing back up. This also means you are open to learning, improving, understanding and tolerance. For me, failure is way much better teacher to learn than success. Take this opportunity to inspect every single aspect and learn from it with hunger.

You have to make the choice of standing back up. Eventually, after much soul-searching, it is your decision to make. And it is your responsibility to do so. You owe it to yourself to try and reach for the star again knowing perfectly well that you may fall again. But this time you know how to get back up.

Staying at the bottom pit of failure, engulfed in self pity and negativity is hard and torturing. Climbing back up may not be easier but it transforms you in a way you never imagined. Make your choice wisely.
